Mayor Robert Weldon, Castle’s longtime friend and the Mayor of New York City, used his political clout to allow Castle to partner up with Beckett. But now, when a woman is found dead in a car that traces back to the Mayor’s motor pool, that partnership comes under fire as the scandal surrounding the investigation threatens to bring down Weldon’s administration. (Summary from IMDB.com)
This episode seemed to have solidified my theory that the mayor has something to do with, or at least knowledge of, Johanna Beckett’s murder. In addition to the mayor doing everything in his power to keep Kate out of this investigation, we had Mystery Man guy (do we know his name yet? I can’t remember… also, why is the actor uncredited?) coercing Castle to get Beckett off of this case. Everything in this episode seemed to come back to Kate in some form or another, even if she didn’t know about it.
Derek Webster (Mayor Robert Weldon)- I have to give Derek major props for stepping into these shoes. Considering that the Mayor has been a pretty elusive creature in this series, a lot of people (including myself) had some pretty high expectations of the Mayor. Derek did a phenomenal job in playing the Mayor with just enough political wavering that continues to keep me convinced he knows more than he’s telling.
Michael Grant Terry (Jordan Norris)- Wendell?! What are you doing on on Castle? It took me roughly 2.5 seconds to recognize him in the Mayor’s office at the very beginning of the episodes, though truthfully I just thought he’d pop in for a second and not be looked at again. I was happy to be wrong. Having only seen Michael Grant Terry on Bones, it was really nice to him in something else, not only see him in something else, but have him be a murder suspect (prime suspect, surely). It was really great to see him in a different role than what I used to.
Rebecca Field (Marilyn Kane)- I recognize her mostly from the short lived series October Road. I’ve only seen her in a few episodes of things here and there, but every time she pops up on my screen she’s always one of the characters that I adore. Being the Dial-a-Goddess’ Chief “Sexecutive”, Rebecca played the role with just enough sexiness that you could understand why she was the at the top of this company, but not so much that it made her character trashy.
Geoff Pierson (Mystery Man)- Technically he’s not credited in this episode (for some reason), but I’m pretty sure that this is the same guy from Rise. All I have to say about him is that he plays an EXCELLENT mystery man. I’d almost be satisfied with not knowing who he is…. almost.
Castle: That’s going to be like looking for a needle in a needlestack.
Mystery Man: There are times when a well placed pawn is worth more than a king.
It’s amazing when one line seems to send chills up my spine…
