Movie Reel` Fanboys

Starring: Sam Huntington, Kristen Bell, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler and Jay Baruchel.
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 90 min.

“Star Wars” fanatics take a cross-country trip to George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch so their dying friend can see a screening of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace before its release.

Aside from being a huge Star Wars fan, I found out about this movie when I was researching some pictures for banners, icons, ect with Kristen Bell. She is one of those actors I’ll follow to basically anything. When I discovered she was in a movie all about Star Wars, there was no looking back.

As I continue to re-watch this movie, other actors stand out to me. Particularly Sam Huntington (from Being Human [US] and Jungle 2 Jungle), and Jay Baruchel.

I’m going to come right out and say it.
If you don’t like Star Wars, you probably won’t like this movie.

This movie is basically a Fanboy/Fangirl’s dream come true. If you were able to break into the house of your idol and watch their upcoming works, it’d be amazing. It’d be worth beating down the trekkies that stand in your way, running away from a pimp wanting his money, and facing Darth Maul. It’d all be worth it.

You start watching the movie for the obscure Star Wars references and hilarious lines, then you get excited when you start to recognize cameo appearances by other actors, then you think about the story, and it really brings an emotional response. One that you wouldn’t expect.

Linus and Eric’s relationship actually follows one that you would see between two friends who haven’t spoken in a few years. They’re awkward around each other, but the one thing that keeps them bonded is this movie, as they fight for the chance to see this movie, they revert to the friends they always were.

I recommend this movie to every one, but especially to every Star Wars fan out there.

“Greatest deed Luke Skywalker ever did was take down the Death Star, right? As far as I’m concerned, that’s what everybody needs. You need that one bad-ass thing that lets you live on forever, you know. ”

  1. This film is a must for everyone who has seen every Star Wars episode more than once, that’s for sure. But I find it hard to recommend it to anyone who isn’t a fanboy. I know that it’s logical, but my point is that there are movies about some cultural phenomena that can enlighten beginners. Sadly, Fanboys is not one of them and everyone who is untouched by Star Wars would be lost in context.
